Please join us for a glass of wine and good conversation as we mark the opening of Seattle-based artist Robert Yoder’s Fireside Room installation. Chat with Robert Yoder, DW Burnam and Roy McMakin. This evening continues the series of biannual art installations at the Sorrento Hotel.

Robert Yoder is a nationally exhibiting artist with over 20 years of exhibition record. Working in collage, assemblage and mixed media oil on panel, Robert’s work has been the focus of numerous solo and group shows across America and Europe. Robert’s approach to art making is youthful and experimental and more inclined to appreciate a grand failure than a mediocre success. He is attracted to universal themes expressed within formal concerns.

In 2001 Robert was the recipient of a Pollack Krasner Foundation Grant. He has also received an Artist Trust Fellowship award and the University of Washington School of Art Alumni Award.

The melodic originals of Seattle pianist Nelda Swiggett draw from her long list of influences, from jazz to Afro-Cuban, to gospel, blues and Irish blends. Nelda formed her first band in 1990, and has since performed at many of Seattle’s leading clubs, concerts and festivals, including the Earshot Jazz Festival, Bumbershoot, and a KPLU-FM Summer Jazz Cruise, among others. Her third CD, This Time, features her current group, the Nelda Swiggett Trio, and was released on the award winning jazz label OA2 Records in 2010.

Sue began her interest in music at the ripe age of 13, playing off her sister’s guitar, learning the ways of the instrument and eventually becoming a singer/songwriter. It was love at first site. Known to sound like Brandi Carlile, Sue engages you from the start with her rich, distinctive vocals. She has been featured at the Bitter End-NYC, Showbox Sodo, Bite of Seattle, Crocodile Cafe, Indiegrrl Nashville Showcase and most recently a showcase at SXSW in Austin, TX and the Hard Rock Cafe in Seattle.

Beginning as an actor and writer in the 1980’s Katy has always been a free spirit and music lover who lives for the arts. She began her career in music as a lead singer for two Seattle-based blues bands in the early 90’s. Influenced by the well-known vocalist and coach, Greta Matassa, Katy found her calling of a jazz vocalist and continues to deliver unbelievable performances throughout Seattle. She has been known to resemble the beautiful sounds of Anita O’Day and Julie London.
